New at Noon: September 3, 2025

Conductor Antonio Pappano reflects on Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto:  “Written in 1919, in the aftermath of World War I, Elgar’s cello concerto is mainly contemplative and although it has stormy episodes. It’s a very strong piece. It’s a very dark piece”  Cellist Gautier Capucon says, “For me, the Elgar Cello Concerto is about passion.”  Their First collaboration finds Pappano and Capucon in the studio with the London Symphony Orchestra.  Listen Wednesday — the cellist’s 44th birthday, by the way- to hear their new recording, NEW at NOON.
