CSO’s Evanston Brady Block Party Includes CPR Youth Showcase and Community Celebration
Summer is in full swing in Cincinnati, and with it come plenty of outdoor events and activities to explore. A set of events worth checking out is the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s (CSO) Brady Block Parties, and this year, there’s another reason to come out and celebrate: a pre-party hosted by Cincinnati Public Radio (CPR) on Saturday, June 13.
The Brady Block Parties began five years ago as a community initiative from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and are named in honor of longtime Cincinnati orchestra and band director Andrew J. Brady of Western Hills High School.
“We are thrilled to continue serving our community and working with our community partners through these free concerts. The Brady Block Parties provide a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where everyone can experience the sound of the CSO in their local neighborhood, and we hope to continue bringing people together through music for generations to come,” said CSO The Honorable Nathaniel R. Jones, Chief Inclusion Officer, Harold Brown.
The first Brady Block Party of the season took place at the Andrew J. Brady Music Center and celebrated Pride Month. The second event heads to Evanston, where activities begin at 6:30 p.m. at Evanston Playground, 3558 Evanston Ave.
Before the main event begins, a Youth Showcase presented by Cincinnati Public Radio will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Cincinnati Public Radio’s headquarters, located at 2117 Dana Avenue and right next door to the CSO’s Block Party.
“We encourage families to stop by at 5:30 p.m. to sample the emerging young talent in our local community. This is a perfect opportunity for young children to see, hear, and experience live music with a refreshing classical and interactive twist,” said Cincinnati Public Radio Events and Volunteer Coordinator Rodney Lear.
91.7 WVXU’s Dany Villarreal Martinez will be hosting the mainstage, which will feature youth artists in the community. First to perform is violinist Tamaiya J…
followed by the Cincinnati Rope Twisters…
…and Cincinnati Jazz Academy’s The New Heights Combo.
The showcase is designed to introduce young audiences to classical music, jazz, and the performing arts through engaging and interactive experiences.
Neighboring Cincinnati Public Radio’s headquarters is right next door to the Evanston Playground, making it easy for guests to enjoy both events. In addition to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performance, the Brady Block Party will feature community activities, local artists, food vendors, popcorn, cotton candy, and opportunities for families to picnic and gather outdoors.
At 8:00 pm, the block party will be topped off with a concert by the CSO. According to the CSO website, “The program will feature works by The Isley Brothers, Cab Calloway, John Williams, Florence Price, Stravinsky, Alan Menken of Disney fame, and more!”
