New at Noon: July 2, 2025

Pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason loves performing Chopin, and she now finds his music very familiar. “I have been playing his music for a while, which gives me confidence in how I might approach a piece of his that’s new to me and my interpretation of it. I’m also at a stage where I am returning to works that I played at a very young age, which is interesting.”The word “young” is certainly subject to interpretation—Jeneba is only 22 years old! But, growing up the third youngest in a family that includes musical siblings, including Sheku (cello) and Isata (piano), young for Jeneba probably means she was still in the cradle!

Her debut solo album on the Sony Classical label, FANTASIE, was released last month.

Listen Wednesday at noon to hear her recording of Chopin Piano Sonata in B-flat Minor, NEW at NOON @90.9 WGUC and WGUC.org
