New at Noon Week of Jan. 22

Renaud Capucon is no stranger to Mozart. Back in 2009, Renaud recorded two of Mozart’s violin concertos and the Sinfonia Concertante with our very own Louis Langree. Then in 2016 a recording of Mozart’s six string quintets led by Capucon was released with wonderful reviews and lush sound. Last summer a new project of Mozart’s music arrived on DG Classics – the complete sonatas for violin and piano with Kit Armstrong. Now, the complete violin concertos featuring Renaud Capucon and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra is out on DG Classics!

This set showcases the lovely relationship between orchestra and their artistic director – Capucon assumed the role in 2021. Recorded in Théâtre de Beaulieu, these concertos go between fiery tempos and relaxed phrases with ease. Robert Levin’s cadenzas (a parenthetical flourish in a solo piece commonly just before a final or other important cadence) fit perfectly in each movement. Added bonus, two movements for violin and orchestra that have been substituted occasionally in these concertos, especially the E major Adagio sounds particularly tender in this set.
Keep an eye out, another volume is coming of Mozart’s music with Capucon: Piano Quartets from DG Classics and Renaud Capucon!
