Region 90 Fosters Community for Local Artists

Celebrate unique works of art from local artists in the Queen City and surrounding cities such as Indianapolis and Louisville to uplift local artists.

All are welcome to attend the interactive art exhibition, Regional Connections, presented by the Contemporary Arts Center.

“The show comes to the CAC as a collaboration with artist collective Region 90, created by Cierra Fogle and co-founder Maxine Wallace, and with support from curators Nytaya Babbitt, Isadis Alcantara, Dai Eades, and Allie Wilkerson,” according to the CAC.

Cierra Fogle, an artist and Maxine Wallace, a photographer, created Region 90 in 2022. Before creating Region 90, Wallace attended an art show of Fogle’s in Indianapolis.

Wallace and Fogle discussed how they wished there was a way for all of their artistic friends in Indianapolis and Cincinnati to have the opportunity to network with one another.

Eventually the two co-founders realized that there was a need in the art community to curate a space where individuals can be inspired by each other. In the fall of 2020, they created the blueprint for their vision of Region 90, explained Wallace.

Since then, Region 90 has had a variety of networking events for local artists such as art shares where people can bring their art pieces and discuss their current projects with other artists.

However, last year when Fogle was a resident artist at the CAC, the CAC was open to collaborate with region 90 and support local artists. As a result, the first Regional Connections event was held.

“So, I think now being able to have some curation with the art gallery has been really, really cool for Region 90. It’s like a different perspective of how people can network and meet each other,” said Fogle.

Whether artists are collaborating with each other on their next masterpiece or driving to each other’s art shows, Fogle and Wallace have seen firsthand the impact Region 90 has had on fellow artists in the community.

“I think just me personally and a lot of artists that have been involved with our collective have just made so many artistic and also work connections too. I think that’s just really important,” said Fogle.

This year artists will continue to have the opportunity to network and showcase their latest works of art at the Regional Connections art exhibition on March 29 from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the CAC. The exhibition will be installed on the 6th floor gallery walls for all ages to enjoy.

Guests can expect to see a wide range of works of art. Whether an artist wants to display their oil painting or showcase a sculpture, Regional Connections has it all! Click here for more information on the Regional Connections art exhibition.
